IMC Island and Siminn sign a roaming agreement

Today the Icelandic mobile operator IMC Ísland signed an agreement with Siminn regarding access to Simins radio-network, the largest in Iceland. This is a ground breaking agreement as this is the first time Siminn enters agreement for such extensive co-operation with a new player in the mobile market. A new-founded sister-company of IMC will be the sales- and marketing division for the local market in Iceland. Alterna Tel is the name of the new company which from January will provide full mobile service in Iceland by the brand name Alterna.
IMC is a part of the International conglomerate WorldCell which has headquarters in Washington DC. WorldCell is a global services provider with operating agreements in 200 countries. WorldCell is the parent company for both IMC and Alterna. IMC Island was founded in 2000, the company has first and foremost operated in international markets. IMC Island holds an extensive collection of over 430 roaming agreements with coverage in more than 185 countries around the world. These roaming agreements are based on the license for GMS 1800 rewarded by the Icelandic PTA. The new company Alterna Tel will change IMC´s focus to Iceland. IMC Island will offer its mobile services to the Icelandic market under the brand Alterna. The new brand will introduce a new approach to the Icelandic mobile market not seen before in Iceland.
The new company will introduce its price plan and service in January.
The agreement with Siminn will open access to the largest and most extensive mobile network in Iceland for Alterna Tel from the first day of operation. This enables Alterna Tel to enter the market providing full coverage and service everywhere in Iceland along with international roaming agreements.

The low overhead of Alterna and will enable us to offer great prices to customers to enjoy. The Parent company, World Cell, is not only investing substantial amount of money in the investment of the technical equipment and operation. Alterna will in addition benefit greatly from their level of expertise and experience. It is especially good and welcome to have a foreign investment choosing Iceland at this time."
